CASology Week 258: DIAMOND

Welcome to Week 258 at CASology!

I'm anticipating some pretty, sparkly cards in the gallery this week but I went a slightly different route as I needed a masculine birthday card. The diamond cue card made me think of argyle patterns which led me to this overlapping diamonds design.

The large dark gray diamond is partially inset in the two red diamonds and adhered at the back. The PTI sentiment is inked with Soft Stone and Versamark inks, stamped over all three diamonds and embossed with a clear embossing powder. This sentiment piece is adhered to an embossed panel and then to the card front.

The Design Team has some terrific ideas this week!

Muse #224

We have a very large house party happening in a few weeks and I'm supposed to be cleaning out the office so that we can use it as an extra guest room, but somehow was distracted and ended up with this card inspired by Tracey McNeely's card for Muse #224.

Muse #224 Tracey McNeely

The tear drop shape reminded me of an old favorite from Avery Elle'e Rounded Diamond stamp set and the hello die cut came courtesy of a friend's Taylored Expressions die I borrowed at a retreat a while back.

I varied the design by using two sizes of teardrops with a limited color palette and curving the images instead of running them in a line.

CASology Week 257: WISH

Welcome to Week 257 at CASology!

We have a wide open cue word this week that can work for any occasion so I am expecting to see a full gallery! Dandelions were my first thought when I saw the word wish. Who can resist teaching their kids to make a wish and blow the seeds into the wind? This trio of Technique Tuesday dandelions are paired with an MFT sentiment for a birthday card.

The image was stamped in yellow first and then partially inked with Versamark on the seed heads and a holographic embossing powder used to add a touch of shine & interest to the panel.

They almost look like sparklers!

The Design Team has terrific cards waiting for you to check out!

CASology Week 256: PIZZA

Welcome to Week 256 at CASology!

I have to admit the cue card this week was a bit of a challenge for me and I tossed around a few ideas (things that go together like ham & pineapple or using the green, white & red of the Italian flag) before I started looking at word play and puns using "pizza".

Once I settled on "give pizza chance" (give peace a chance), it was easy to make a pizza from an inked circle die and cut into slices to make a pizza peace sign.

This week as you check out the Design Team cards you will notice a couple of changes. Hazel Hodgkins is stepping down from the team and Anna Uhras joining us - I know they'd both love to hear from you!

CASology Week 255: FLY

Welcome to Week 255 at CASology!

I admit the housefly images in SU Beetles & Bugs tempted me this week, but with my baby graduating high school I was drawn more to this sentiment from Ranger's Dylusions Clearly the Right Words stamp set.

The sentiment is perfect paired with a couple of sweet Technique Tuesday sketchy birds.  All stamps were heat embossed on watercolor paper which allowed me to add a touch of color with Zig markers.

Papertrey Ink June 2017 Blog Hop + FMS #293 + Seize the Birthday

It's been a while since I've participated in the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop, but I just couldn't forget the ombre jars in the June 2017 inspiration photo. For more details, head over to Capture the Moment.

Blog-hop-logo
Blog hop inspiration

I started by applying Peacock Feather and Abandoned Coral Distress Inks to a couple of white panels and cutting a PTI Big Basics: Wish Big die out of each. The teal panel was cut with a stitched curved edge, the Wish Big removed and replaced the the coral die cut.  The completed panel is then popped up on a white card base.

I love how the two complementary ombre colors look together!

The design is based on Freshly Made Sketches #293 and is also being linked to the Seize the Birthday challenge where Anything Goes.

Fusion - Four of July Jars + Seize the Birthday Anything Goes

This card popped in my head as soon as I saw the  Fusion - Four of July Jars challenge earlier today. As you can see, I was inspired by the red, white and blue jars and the sketch.

I already had the white cardstock center panel leftover from another project and added the Papersmoochies sentiment before embossing it with the stars. The red MFT frame was adhered to the navy cardbase first, then the white panel inset and the stars scattered and adhered at varying heights.

I had a hard time getting a true color in these photographs. This close up is a little better than the full card photo.

As this card will be used for a friend celebrating her 4th of July birthday, I am entering it in the Seize the Birthday Anything Goes challenge.

CASology Week 254: HOUSE

Welcome to Week 254 at CASology!

As soon as I saw the cue card this week, I pulled out the Memory Box Birdhouse Trio die to sit on my desk while I thought about what kind of card I needed.  The sentiment from Jane's Doodles Neighborhood stamp set is perfect for a thank you card we'll be needing later this summer. A Zig marker is used to add the blue watercolored sky directly onto a watercolor card base before the die cut is adhered.

CASology Week 253: CLOTHES

Welcome to Week 253 at CASology!

For some reason the word CLOTHES initially stumped me. Even after shopping with a few girlfriends and coming home with a selection of polka dot and gingham patterned papers that I bought because I thought they would be perfect for paper pieced baby clothes, the light bulb didn't go off right away. LOL

Three images from Lawn Fawn's Little Bundles stamp set are stamped and fussy cut before being hung them from a die cut Avery Elle bunting line. Aren't these bows perfect?!

The Lawn Fawn sentiment is curved slightly to follow the line of the oval MFT Mini-scalloped Stitched die .

Muse #219

It has been crazy busy around here as our son pushed through the last few weeks of high school along with starting back working at Legoland for the summer. Yesterday was his graduation and everyone involved was thrilled that the weather forecast for overcast skies held, making it quite pleasant to sit through the outdoor ceremony. Unbelievable that this happened in the blink of an eye.

I'm hoping the change in our schedule will mean I have a little more crafting time like I found today. This card is inspired by Anita's contribution for the Muse #219 challenge.

I was inspired by the coral/black/white color palette, masking and stenciling a fade out background.  My changes include clear heat embossing the sentiment and inking the Abandoned Coral Distress Ink around it to make it pop.

The finished panel is matted for a thin black border and adhered to a Berry Sorbet card base.

CAS(E) This Sketch! #224 + Simon Says Masculine

With a little crafting time today I decided to knock a Father's Day card off my to do list, pairing a NBUS PTI Road Signed stamp & die set with an older WPlus9 Written on Ribbon stamp set. The sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch! #224 provided inspiration for the design.

Once all the elements were stamped and die cut, they were layered and adhered with foam dots allowing them to sit at different heights.

This card is also being linked to the Wednesday Stamp Challenge at Simon Says Stamp where the challenge this week is to Make it Masculine.

CASology Week 252: INSECT

Welcome to Week 252 at CASology!

There was something about the layered insects in the Stampin' Up Beetles and Bugs stamp set that appealed to me immediately and, of course, I knew it was coming out to play as soon as I saw the cue card for this week.

The biggest challenge was deciding which bugs to use and in the end three medium sized were alternated with a couple of the smaller insects. The first layers were inked in black directly onto the card base, then the layers added with PTI Limeade Ice and Hawaiian Shores inks. The sentiment comes from an older Taylored Expressions stamp set, Wheely Great.

Check out the Design Team cards for more terrific ideas!

Muse #218 + FMS #290 + Simon Says Anything Goes

Waiting for a delivery trapped me at home for most of the day. What's a crafty girl to do, but head to her desk and play?

This card is being submitted to the Muse #218 challenge where we are celebrating Ardyth's birthday in style. Instead of giving us a card for inspiration, we were invited to pick any card Ardyth's extensive & fabulous portfolio. My need for a sympathy card sent me right to her Pinterest board and this perfect example.

Ardyth Percy-Robb

Turning the sketch for Freshly Made Sketches #290 upside down and flipping it influenced my decision to move the focal to the bottom of the panel. The stamped tree is replaced with a die cut branch placed to allow a few leaves to overhang the popped up panel.

The sentiment from the Altenew Thinking of You was stamped after the masked area was inked with Crushed Olive Distress Ink.

In addition to linking this card to Freshly Made Sketches #290, it is being added to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Blog Challenge where Anything Goes this week.

Happy birthday, Ardyth!
